The sea remembers

Cnaani collects remnants of destruction on the Jabaliyah beach in Jaffa; political destruction and banal destruction—remnants of the Nakba, remnants of Manshiyya, remnants of Lapid’s ceramic factory, and construction waste.

Tiles from Palestinian houses destroyed during historical-political events are mixed with debris from houses in the "Gush Dan" area that were transported to Jaffa as construction waste for decades. Kitchen, bathroom, floor tiles, roofs, and utensils whose design reflects their era. Fragments smoothed and softened by the sea.

With this collection of fragments, Cnaani presents an archival installation that explores, reveals, and maps layers of history and destruction alongside local design and material culture.
