The Israeli thorn guide
Fields of thistles are an inseparable part of the Israeli summer landscape. Thistles and other thorny plants may not be as colorful or fragrant as their flowering counterparts, but they are by all means just as impressive – due to their unique structure and essential role in the plant’s life cycle. The dried thorns hold a promise for the future within, symbolizing the coming of the next bloom.
The process of harvesting and collecting these thistles stemmed from thoughts of posthumous immortalization, as well as the dialogue between man and plant life, and their symbolic unification. The transition from organic, decomposing matter into a rigid metallic shape allows us to observe and enjoy the thistle’s beauty indefinitely, as though a moment of its life were eternally frozen in time.
