On ararat
In these difficult times, flooded with confusion and misdirection, the voice of poetry yearns to return to genesis. It carves a path, connecting the ancient words in the biblical tale of the flood to the sounds of melodies from the Jewish Yemeni tradition.
In ‘On Ararat’, water has worn down the rocks, leaving an eternal mark and reminder of the past upon them, while ancient Yemeni tunes help revive a forgotten tale. The substance has absorbed the flood, and is now ready to serve as an echo chamber and containing vessel.
Material substance is left behind, waiting patiently for what the future brings.
Rain comes, pounding endlessly, washing away. The material is evidence.
When the calm eventually arrives, substance remembers everything that has come to pass – it is the story, the feelings and experiences embedded in the journey.
The storm is over.
