Nesting Boxes
A series of echo boxes inspired by nesting chests for the birds of Jerusalem.
This project reflects Jerusalem’s character, celebrating its inherent duality and multifaceted quality – combining nature with urbanism, planning with improvisation, religion and secularity, the sacred with the mundane.
This work’s design aspects connect wild, natural materials with geometrical, architectural formations. The music brings together sounds of local birds and the city’s restless commotion.
The musical pieces incorporated into this body of work are dedicated to various areas around the city, and to the natural tones of each zone. Every piece places field recordings taken in Jerusalem alongside live and synthesized instruments, used with computerized sound processing.
‘Nesting Boxes’ is a call for an optimistic future, as well as an invitation to listen, observe, and experience the polarity come together to create new harmonies.
Yehuda Amichai - There is a Bird in the Skies
(translated by Adam Miklaf)
There is a bird in the skies, perhaps
singing a sweet song:
If I were a man
a footed person
on the vast, heavy ground,
I would stand and stand and stand
and never move again
