All you who pass by; parcels from top to bottom

The concept of Yerushalaim Shel Maala [the celestial Jerusalem] is an ideal reflecting from within the eyes of a dreamer. However, the earthly Jerusalem contains perhaps the largest concentration of dreamers in history – within it, every dreamer perceives their past, future, and maybe the greatest of their fears.

‘All You Who Pass By’ reimagines objects collected in the streets as instruments capable of heavenly sounds. An empty bucket, a cracked mug, scrap fabrics, shards of a clay vessel… These objects were gathered from the neighborhoods of Nachlaot and Talbiyeh, Ein Karem and Musrara, then subsequently cataloged and processed, being endowed with a brand new identity. From easily recognizable items, the materials transform into a series of four memory-preserving objects. The memories may be warm and harmonious, or on the contrary – as dissonant and alienating as a wrathful prophecy.

Each and every object in the series, which acts as an expression of the Jerusalem Vocal Consort’s musical piece ‘Parcels from Top to Bottom’, has a voice of its own. The resulting quartet creates a blend of human voices, akin to beams of light entwining. Thus, fragmented quotes from the works of Avigdor Dagan and S.Y. Agnon are sewn into Tomás Luis de Victoria’s ‘Lamentations of Jeremiah’.
