Floating Refuge
Innocence, survival instincts, a society lost in chaos, seeking to save itself from imminent, colossal danger – these are the themes explored in ‘Floating Refuge’. The object at its center allows for a brief glimpse into a rushed, emergency creation process of weaving and knotting techniques. Weaving has been part of human life since the very dawn of humankind, and remains relevant even at this critical point in time – the instinctive, primal motion that powerfully bonds different materials, creating a larger, complete object.
The light, fragile materials used in this work provide hints of its past, uncovering the basic conflict at its core, while raising questions about the fate of the society that built it.
