ANIMA(L)TED
Hybridity is the amalgamation of one species with another. It is the gray area, the no man’s land that defies clear-cut definitions and borders. Following this new link between separate entities, an entire world, rich in content, is formed. The act of hybridization, in its association of foreign elements, threatens categorical conventions and thus may be interpreted as monstrous.
‘ANIMA(L)TED’ is an interactive, modular symbol creating system, designed according to a predetermined grid of constancy. This system allows users to make new, hybrid symbols using its various parts. The symbols were all created according to the program’s grid, while conforming to a uniform visual language. Countless new forms may be created using the work’s interactive interface – and you are more than welcome to add your own symbols to the database.
The initial version of this work was presented as part of Nir Scheyer’s final project, Visual Communication Department, Shenkar.
