The group exhibition "With Blind Steps" presents works from the 1970s, the decade during which performance, body art, and video art first appeared in Israel. The artists who experimented with these mediums explored new ways of connecting with space and time, and with the performativity of memory by reviving the past in the here and now. The works in the exhibition express a confrontation between addressing shared traumas and questions of identity and gender, while also presenting the personal experiences of the artists.

Beita gallery presents a gallery talk and demonstration of ‘On the Axis of the Heavenly Spheres', an exhibition by ceramic art collective MYO Studio. As part of the event, the work methods and material research practices used by the studio will be revealed, including demonstrations of an industrial production line, ceramic molding, using 3D printing to create models, and more.

The Train Theater is pleased to welcome the visitors of Jerusalem Design Week to the beautiful Davidson Center! On Saturday, September 21, 2024, just a short walk from Hansen House, various activities for families and children will be held at the Train Theater—a repertory puppet theater for children that promotes creative freedom, innovation, and excellence among professional artists.

"Seventy Percent": A contemporary circus show at the theater square. Four circus performers arrive at the square with one goal: to jump on their springboard together. But in the show, as in real life, nothing is really simple, and challenges and surprises keep coming. A show full of humor and emotion, dealing with the universal longing for connection, belonging, and friendship.

11am – ״Tiny Ocean״: A play about two girls playing in the water, dreaming up stories and adventures as they go. Within the little sea they have created, anything is possible… A magical, humorous play in a sea of magic and emotion.

"Biotope - Seven Years on One Place"
In these days of war and global isolation, we will focus on one street corner in Tel Aviv and a seven-year observation of active research and daily writing. The author, who returned to the big city from a rural suburb after 25 years, recounts the place where she lived and the contrasts and underground worlds: the Cameri Theater, the Opera, the Tel Aviv Museum - and adjacent to them, a methadone distribution station that summons about 300 patients to the biotope area every day.

On Then and Now – Chests and Design' – A fascinating discussion between industrial designer Prof. Dov Ganchrow and Jenya Frumin, on the subject of chests and their role throughout history, to this day.

'In the Beginning There Was an Ark': The Museum for Islamic Art presents an intimate exhibition, created especially for the Jerusalem Design Week. The exhibition features rare chests and arks from the museum’s collection alongside contemporary pieces, raising questions around issues such as value, craftsmanship, technology and functionality. Many of the chests held in the museum’s collections are rare, desirable items, often valued higher than the objects originally contained within them.

A conversation with the creators and designers of the book "Nir-Oz, Redemption and Mourning Flowers" together with a kibbutz resident who participated in the book's creation. The discussion will focus on the creative and design process of the book, during which the creators will discuss the importance of documentation and design in times of crisis. They will share insights from their work process and discuss the design and ethical dilemmas that arise when dealing with sensitive content and situations.

"Design and Mixture: Animal, Vegetable and Mineral in the Ark":
The reboot process of the universe included samples of living creatures of both genders and some of their habitats. The material and technological world was contained within the ark itself.
What can contemporary anthropology tell us about the complex connections between design and survival.

From the COVID-19 pandemic to an unprecedented war, the healthcare system has found itself at the center of extraordinary challenges, forced to reinvent itself time and again. At the conference, we will present solutions and coping strategies by designers and architects as they face the unknown, highlighting their ability to create certainty and ease the difficult experiences of those who must rely on the system's services.

Behind the Scenes of the Permanent Exhibition "A Treasury of Words" | Netta Assaf - Exhibition Curator
The "Treasury of Words" exhibition marks the first time that the most rare and valuable items from the National Library of Israel's collection are being presented to the general public. The exhibition showcases unique and precious masterpieces of Israel, the Jewish people, and the written cultures that originated in this part of the world. It was developed over a long and delicate process spanning about seven years.

Curator Netta Assaf will discuss the decisions made while working on the exhibition. What were the dilemmas they faced? How does the exhibition ensure that each item is given its own unique placement and setting?

The new National Library building is a remarkable and exceptional architectural icon in Israel. Rabbi Raphael Kroizer, an ordained rabbi and judge, is one of the rabbis of Yeshivat Derech Chaim, the author of the book "Divorce in Halacha," and a community rabbi in Ramot neighborhood.

"Taking the Ark to the City's Streets"
Unlike in the Bible, where the ark functions as a closed place that protects those inside it, in the world of the Mishnah and the language of the Sages, the ark serves as a tool for human use. The ark stores objects and books, and it is the central term for the sacred place in the synagogue where the Torah scroll is kept. According to the Sages, in times of distress, the ark, which usually resides in the synagogue, leaves its place and moves to the city's streets. In light of the war, we will discuss the mobile book ark versus Noah's Ark as possible models of existence in space.

Following a six-week exhibition at Hamiffal gallery, which dealt with the references and artistic paraphrasing surrounding the draft of their manifesto, the Export art platform is concluding its time at Hamiffal with a special event, featuring the Falude Soundsystem in the foyer – for an evening of sound and flavor, among the walls of the exhibition.

Radical is a non-profit publishing house dedicated to bringing today's consciousness-altering books, which contain the reality-changing ideas of tomorrow, to the Israeli public. Radical prints and distributes books that have inspired millions worldwide.


In a one-time event during Jerusalem Design Week, members of Radical will come to explore the parable of the Ark in the context of the current human crisis—the climate crisis, which is both a contemporary scientific fact and an ancient mythological story. A discussion on the struggle to prevent the approaching flood, technologies and inventions that rival Noah's Ark project, and hope for a white dove that will confirm the future holds a better world.

It is in this spirit that we express faith in the future, using ink and paper, diving into a creative moment of exploration and experimentation.

The Risograph is a unique Japanese printer that uses bright, glowing ink in separate layers, similarly to the silkscreen printing technique. This workshop will give participants practical experience with the Risograph, using mixed techniques, combining drawing and collage to create colorful postcards for all to take home and send off.

The event is intended for designers who are graduates of design academies or currently active in the design field. It includes designers from disciplines such as product design, textile design, fashion, visual communication, jewelry, animation, video, installation, and more.

For Borges, a dream is a treasure, elusive and unattainable except in that fleeting moment between dreaming and waking. This treasure is so hard to leave behind, that the waking moments following a lost dream become shrouded in sadness. In ‘El Sueño (tribute)’, Mazkeka’s inner venue space is reimagined and redesigned using physical material and sound. Subaquatic, subterranean, subconscious.

This event is part of the “Barutina” from the municipal Jerusalem Young Adults Center.

The exhibit will also be open to the public on Wednesday, September 25, and Thursday, September 26, from 12:00 to 20:00

“Initialism” Poets discuss the topic of poetry at the intersection between the sacred and the secular, and between home and the outside world. Eden Abitbol is an Israeli poet, screenwriter, and columnist.

Hamiffal hosts the Jerusalem Film & Television Fund for three workshops in one evening:
Ella Uzan – An AI artist who incorporates innovation and creativity in her work. Ella will be giving a fascinating, interactive lecture that dives headfirst into the visual capabilities of AI.
Shahar Varshal – A sound designer and editor, vocal modeling producer and creative AI pioneer. Shachar takes us on a riveting journey to the crossroads where audio and music creation meet AI.
Doron Tzur – A screenwriter, author and award-winning filmmaker, with over 20 years of professional experience. Doron will be teaching a class on independent, high-quality video content creation; how to create original animation projects with no drawing abilities; and how to turn ChatGPT into the ultimate creative partner and art director.

Parents and children are welcome to Studio of Her Own for a workshop inspired by the “What Is Left” exhibition. In this workshop, we will construct household dishes from paper peels, following the work of artist Ziva Jelin, whose work is featured in the exhibition. We will witness the artist’s creative processes, and have a try of her technique as we create paper sculptures.

Nurith Gashan and Oded Friedland, curators of the exhibition 'Most Likely' at the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, invite archaeologists and designers to join them in exploring and reconstructing the stories behind ancient artifacts that have withstood the test of time.

"Rise of the Machines" and Jerusalem Design Week are proud to present: An AI Image Creation Head-to-Head Tournament featuring the top creators of generated images in Israel.

The museum is kind of a modern-day Noah's Ark. What goes into the ark? How are the objects organized inside it? And how do we preserve them for future generations? This is the first event of its kind, a dialogue between the Israel Museum and Jerusalem Design Week.

A conversation between a lecturer and her four students, who wrote from the heart about their experiences on October 7th. These students, frontline evacuees, have penned accounts of trauma that outline what happened, their feelings and memories, and also offer hope.
During the meeting, we will read parts of the written works, discuss the importance of writing, activism, and documentary creation, and explore how the Culture, Creation, and Production Department can offer educational alternatives during times of war.

Micah Goodman is an author, thinker, and scholar of Jewish and Israeli thought. Goodman holds a PhD in Jewish Thought.


"Nationalism and Universalism in the Revolutionary Thought of Maimonides"
The philosophy of Maimonides (Rambam) is universal in nature. According to Maimonides, the people of Israel do not hold any metaphysical superiority over other nations. However, the halachic (Jewish legal) tradition is not egalitarian; it places the people of Israel above other nations. The bridge that Maimonides constructed between the philosophy he developed and the tradition to which he was committed is a magnificent and surprising one, the foundations of which we will explore and study during the lecture.
